Declared on the 1979, under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the Western Ghats, lying to the North Eastern side of Panjim city, on the way of Belgaum. Spread across an area of 240-sq-kms, this sanctuary presents rich wildlife and captivating scenic beauty to its visitors. It is the largest protected wildlife area of Goa and has The Bhagwan Mahavir National Park within its vicinity.

Bhagwan Mahavir National Park

Bhagwan Mahavir (Mollem) National park is a beautiful place, it is situated on the eastern border of Goa. Total area of the park is about 107 Km. In the year of 1978, the core area of the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary declared as a National Park, and known as Bhagwan Mahavir (Mollem) National park.

Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary is a 133 sq km protected natural habitat located in the Western Ghats of India, on the Goa-Karnataka border. Touted to be Goa’s largest wildlife reserve, it is home to the famous Dudhsagar Falls, Mollem National Park, Tambdi Surla Temple, and Devil’s Canyon among other attractions. It houses a variety of plants, birds, and animals.


The forest is predominantly semi-evergreen and evergreen type and is abode to a rich diversity of flora
and fauna. The notable large mammals that you can spot are Leopards, Elephants, Spotted Deer, Slender Toris, Jungle Cats, Malayan Giant Squirrels, Pythons, Indian Bison(Gaur), among the reptiles King Cobra, Python etc. with more than 120 bird species identified here, birdwatchers can also spot a wide variety of avian fauna..


Dudhsagar Falls
